Plain-English summary
These are the key points most people need.
We provide documentation
Our Gender Recognition Certificate is a formal record based on self-identification for personal use. It is not government-issued ID and does not replace official legal recognition processes where they exist.
No legal or medical advice
We do not provide legal advice, medical advice, diagnoses, treatment, or counselling. For specific situations, consult a qualified professional.
Acceptance varies
Organisations and jurisdictions may accept, reject, or treat documentation differently. You are responsible for how you use it and compliance with local laws.
Important terms
So there’s no ambiguity about what we mean on this page.
“We / our / us”
The operators of GenderRecognition.org and the Digital Registry service.
“Certificate”
Our Gender Recognition Certificate issued based on your application and self-identification, with a unique registry reference.
“Official legal recognition”
Government-controlled processes (e.g., passport marker changes, statutory recognition, court/medical routes) that vary by country.
Avoiding confusion with UK government documents
In the UK, “Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC)” commonly refers to a government-issued certificate obtained through the official process. Our certificate is not the UK government GRC and does not replace any official UK process. It is documentation for personal use and supporting contexts, where accepted.

This disclaimer is designed to clearly explain the limitations and scope of the GenderRecognition.org service, including what our certificate can and cannot do.
By using our website and services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the terms outlined in this disclaimer.
Documentation Service Only
We provide a Gender Recognition Certificate as a form of documentation based on self-identification and the information you provide.
Not a Government Service
- We are not affiliated with any government department, agency, or official gender recognition body
- Our certificate is not government-issued ID
- We do not issue official legal gender recognition certificates where a government process exists
- We do not provide statutory recognition
Our service is intended for personal use and supporting contexts where organisations may accept it as documentation.
Not Legally Binding
The certificate does not create legal rights or change your legal status on its own.
Does Not Change Official Records
- Passport gender markers
- Birth certificates
- Government identity documents
- Official legal gender recognition registers
Acceptance Varies
Acceptance depends on the organisation, jurisdiction, and context. We cannot guarantee acceptance by any specific body.
Different organisations have different policies. Some may accept supporting documentation; others may require official government documents or additional evidence.
- We do not guarantee acceptance by banks, employers, schools, insurers, landlords, clubs, healthcare providers, or government bodies
- We do not control third-party policies
- We cannot override legal requirements in any jurisdiction
You should check with the relevant organisation and consult Regions for country-specific context.
Applicant Responsibility
The certificate is produced based on self-identification and the accuracy of the information you provide. You are responsible for ensuring your application details are correct.

We do not assess, diagnose, approve, or “verify” your gender identity. We provide documentation based on your declaration.
We do not provide legal advice.
- We can provide general information and practical guidance
- We may link to official resources where available

- Official legal gender recognition
For official processes, consult your local government guidance (see Regions).
Registry Purpose
The Digital Registry exists to support authenticity checks and continuity (e.g., verification of a reference number, and replacement support).
Not Public
